The Pros and Cons of ISP Email Account

by Melissa Smich on May 5, 2010

For the majority of us, the Email addresses from Internet Service Providers, commonly known as ISPs are always the first. As it comes with the Internet Service Provider, we do not need to pay anything for it. However, these email accounts come with various pros and cons. Some of the pros and cons of the email accounts obtained through ISPs are listed below:

Pros of an ISP email account

The days have withered away, when we need to pay a price to have an email account with sufficient data storage. After the launch of the various free email service providers, there has been a stiff competition amongst these providers, and the consumers have benefited heavily. One of the major advantages of ISP email accounts is the kind of customer support provided by these services. The ISPs are more concerned about losing a subscriber as compared to the free email account services and hence provide an effective customer service, which largely benefits the beginners. You can easily complain to customer care executives about your grievances with ISP email account. However, with web based services you will not receive sufficient service.

The other benefit of using ISP email accounts is that they are usually IMAP and POP3 enabled, and are customizable in any of the email programs, such as, the Windows Mail and Outlook. For your benefit, these email addresses come with a GUI with the help of which you can easily send and check mail from any location and through any computer, and that too irrespective of the ISP company.

Cons of an ISP email account

As the saying goes, every coin has another side, and the same goes with ISP email accounts.  A major disadvantage of ISP email accounts is if you move to a different location, you will feel the pinch of not having an email account if there is no service of the respective ISP.

The other main drawback of the ISP email accounts is if the company ceases to operate its functions, you will again be left without an email account and all your important mail will be lost. However, the chances of this happening are rare, but the factor is still worth considering.

Remember, nothing is perfect and you should choose the email account service which you think suits you best.

I like how they’re customizable with the most popular email programs.

well, I’m assuming if you went with ISP you could back up your emails just to be sure.
