Apple Magic Trackpad

by RichC on June 21, 2010

In yet another show of technological dominance, rumors have been circulating online that Apple has applied for a trademark on the Magic Trackpad, possibly making this revolutionary accessory exclusive only to the esteemed company. The Apple Magic Mouse started all the magical revolution on how people use desktops or laptops and is getting exceptional reviews from various tech oriented websites.

It comes as no surprise that an Apple Magic Trackpad is being developed as this would again create raves just in time that the iPhone 4 loses hype. But with Apple’s track record in making products of technological triumph the Magic Trackpad seems destined to be made. Rumors speculate that this relatively small, light and wireless accessory will perform the functions of the Magic Mouse while having handwriting recognition software as well. The assumptions may seem far fetched to some but the Apple Magic Mouse and iPhone 4 is solid proof of Steve Job’s commitment to user friendly and easily accessible technology.

Apple seems to be enamored in finger friendly technology as witnessed by fans of the original iPhone back in 2007. The unique user interface made this product the darling of the masses as people finally had a chance to connect physically with a handheld gadget. The iPhone responds to gestures and movements utilizing sensors and accelerometers and was the first mobile phone to integrate such components. The result was an enhanced multimedia experience that will make one forget the earlier days of seemingly primitive smart phones.

The Apple Magic Mouse may seem like an excess extravagant accessory and some pundits rejected Apple’s reinvention of the wheel but one look at the amazing gadget and it all suddenly makes sense. Bluetooth technology made wireless integration easy and fuss free and is a familiar accessory to many gadget users but this feature is just one of the exceptional features of the Magic Mouse. The same sensors are built-in the Magic Mouse and exhibits a new, comfortable way on clicking, dragging and pointing the cursor on a laptop or desktop. This trend of user friendly, wireless integration is a trend that may be punctuated (by a comma, at least) by the introduction of a Magic Trackpad. This is not a question of “what?” as “why not?” should be the question on one’s mind when pondering about the possible creation and distribution of such a gadget.

The Apple Magic Trackpad is a welcome addition to the wirelessly integrated family of products made available in the market. Apple has a habit of introducing products with a high aesthetic value and the Magic Trackpad, fiction or fact, will be no exception. Apple’s pride lies in the core values that somehow connect to the consumer in a light, non serious way. It is not about connection or the magic of technology but how this technology is integrated into the lifestyle of the consumer.

It looks like a terrific gadget–it’s amazing how they would have a new product to introduce as soon as the iPhone hype starts to fade away.

I’ve never seen handwriting-recognition software that truly satisfied me. I wonder if Apple will finally be the company to accomplish this feat.

Is Apple still making the Magic Mouse? Probably not, given its love of finger technology. (I missed out on that product.)
