The new Apple TV was announced by Apple during their 2010 conference. This box will support YouTube, Netflix and Flickr. The device is offered for under $100 with TV shows at under a dollar with feature movies under five dollars. Though there are some issues, this device could possibly revolutionize the way we watch television.
The iTV offers a 720p output, putting it inline with high definition televisions. It also has WiFi capabilities with HDMI, optical and USB hook ups. It can also stream media from your iPad.
There are unfortunately some issues with the iTV. There is no storage. This means that you cannot purchase any of your prospective television shows or movies, only rentals are available. However, you can purchase these programs for streaming.
Some of the channels that have already signed up to be a part of the iTV experience are: ABC (and ABC Family), Fox, Disney, and BBC America. You can also take your music, photos and videos from Windows and Mac computers and show them on your high definition television. With high definition in tow you will be able to see all of your photos and videos in crystal clear definition. The iTV runs on very little power so it is more economical and will not get overheated. The iTV will allow you to watch online high definition movies and television shows. Additionally, users will be able to enjoy their media on their home entertainment system.
The rental system will allow 30 days for the user to watch a movie or television show and 48 hours to finish watching the program. They can watch the program as many times as they want in those 30 days. Currently there are over 7,000 movies available on iTV with 3,400 of them available in HD. Most of the newer releases will be made available the same day they are on DVD.
Allowing for internet access gives users the ability to view their favorite YouTube videos as well as an option for Netflix subscribers. The iTV gives access to the millions of pieces of media floating around the world wide web. As an added feature, users can control their iTV through their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch using the Remote app which is available from the App store. There is a lot of potential with the iTV, there may be some room for improvement, but they are off to a good start.

I think the Apple TV and similar devices will allow more people who make good YouTube videos the chance to really hit the bigtime.
Do you have to rent every single thing you watch on the Apple TV, or are some shows and movies free?
