PC World ranks the top 10 flash based MP3 players:

1. Creative ZEN (score: 83)
2. Creative Zen V Plus (80)
3. Apple iPod Nano (79)
4. Apple iPod Touch (79)
5. iRiver Clix Gen 2 (78)
6. SanDisk Sansa Connect (77)
7. Samsung YP-P2 (75)

The PCW evaluation consisted of 4 components: Pricing, Performance, Features and Design. While the Creative Zen lost out to the Apple Touch in the Design category, it handily beat out the 2 Apples in the significant Features category.
…the above is quite a different list from that out of CNet … guess the quest for the best goes on.

News site CNMO.com has posted some photos of what they say is an updated second-generation M8 User Interface showing better EQ, song lyrics, album art and audio player controls. Others such as posters at fansite MeizuMe claim CNMO Spreads False Rumors Again, and assert the pics are old fakes.
…who knows, but we’re leaning towards faux because lyrics are difficult to do.
The specs for the real M8 phone continue to be GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz, 802.11b/g, 3.4-inch 720×480 touch screen, Bluetooth 2.0, 3 megapixel auto-focus camera, 107×59x11.9 mm and 8GB/16GB. The main features are touted as: Phone, Music, Video, Camera, Internet Browser, TV Out, Auto Adjustment of Backlight Brightness and Display Direction.

Akihabara uncrates the new E100 media player from iriver and provides a short review.
The E100 measures 92.8×47.8×11.3mm, weighs 59grams, has a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, capacity up to 8GB, FM radio and supports WMA/OGG/MP3/ASF/FLAC audio as well as MPEG4/WMV9/XVID video.
The reviewer appreciated the ‘excellent audio quality’, the click-on-the-screen D-Click interface and the overall design, but bemoaned the lack of Bluetooth and D-Click’s occasional lack of responsiveness.
…at about $198 the E100 is a lot cheaper than the somewhat similar Sony NW-A820 series…see here for a side-by-side comparison.

According to Wired Magazine, the new Slacker Portable music player is no slacker. The SlackPort has been in the pipeline for about a year now, and Wired finally got their hands on 1 and reviewed it.
In summary, they liked it giving the thing 8/10, saying it was worth the wait.
The Slacker Portable connects by Wi-Fi 802.11B/G to the 2 million songs on the Slacker Radio internet radio service. The $299.99 8GB model can hold up to 4000 of those 2M songs and is refreshed once the unit is within range of a Wi-Fi service. Slacker Radio is free if one is willing to put up with listening to ads & limits on song skipping, otherwise it’s $10/month.
…the SP is bigger and heavier than the somewhat comparable iPod Touch, and a challenge to the Apple business model namely “People want to own their music”.

Gizmodo got a hold of a Nokia N95 phone/GPS/computer/etc and was kind enough to review it for us…
The Gizmodo reviewer starts off with a significant negative of the device, namely complexity. The converged functionality of a device that combines — GPS, a music player, 160MB of memory & a microSD slot, 5MB camera & a 2nd CIF camera, video recording/editing, radio, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, office document viewer, HSDPA and telephony all in a 120g package — is both inspiring & intimidating. The commentator suggests that it would take days to understand the device, not to mention reading through the 140-page Nokia N95 User Guide.
Among other things, Gizmodo liked the GPS functionality of the N95 and the camera – they weren’t thrilled with the battery life, the price and the euro-centric HSDPA. Would they buy the N95?…in a word, no.
