smaller tablets?

Rumor has it Apple is developing an iPad with a screen smaller than eight inches. Could this be the dawning of a new era of smaller tablets?

I'm not sure it makes sense for tablets to get too small. Isn't the large size of a tablet screen one of its main selling points over a smartphone?

I'd actually like to see tablets with even bigger screens: maybe a widescreen tablet. I'd only want that if they could make them lightweight, though.
