Microsoft and Mobile Phones?

Is Microsoft into mobile phone software or phones?
I heard they might be coming out with their own line of phones.. is this true? If not, should they?

Just like with PCs, they don't make their own hardware. But Microsoft has been building mobile device OSes for years. Windows CE, Pocket PC 2002-2003, Windows Mobile, etc. Their recent effort re-brands Windows Mobile 6.5 as the Winodws Phone.
