Using a Blackberry?
Is there anyone here who has used Mail2web on their Blackberry yet? I have a smartphone so I am going to look into setting up my email on that. Hopefully it will make checking my various email accounts easier than before. Its a hassle to jump back and forth between checking all the accounts.

Yep, it works well with a BlackBerry. I have lots of different folders and rules to sort my exchange email, and I love how I can see a flat view of my inbox regardless of what folder the email is in. And I can also choose to not see some folders on my BlackBerry.

Is there anything that sets a Blackberry apart from other smartphones? Or were they just the first type of phone to really incorporate email and get the public excited about it?

I think they were one of the first phones to allow you to check your email. There is a lot of competition nowadays, it seems like most major phone companies offer at least one type of phone with email capability. Good news for us consumers!

The first one I had was more like a 2-way pager, it didn't even have a phone built in.

Don't laugh but those phones are a bit too complicated for me, they are like mini-computers I could never understand what I was doing
I like my iphone and how you can just slide and tap everything with your finger!

you may have seen my post elsewhere - I'm new to posting, but an old-hat to never receiving replies, so sorry in advance for the duplication.
Need advice on activation. Here's what I've got:
Blackberry Bold 9000 device firmware 4.6.xxx
mail2web customer on business exchange plan
Orange customer (contract) with BIS plan
Signed up to blackberry add-on
Activation has alwayd failed. I've had varying support from Mail2web and Orange with the same overall sense of vagueness. They are all saying that my phone provider must supply me a BES data plan - but the mai2web wiki instructions say BIS plan. Who's right?

Please advise!!!!!!!!!

BES and BIS
The answer to the question is that you can connect your BlackBerry to your mail2web Outlook Exchange e-mail account using BIS, but you will only get a basic BIS service - so no folders on your handheld, limited synchronisation etc. To get true BES on your handheld you will need to get your service provider (Orange in your case) to upgrade your mobile data package to include BES, and beware - this can be expensive, up to £35 per month on top of your existing package. It is worth haggling with your service provider, though, as the true cost to them is negligible and the tariffs are designed for business customers rather than individuals.

Well thats strange. why should i upgrade and use the Mail2web BES if my celluar BES service will also allow too sync with exchange ? that doesnt make any sense imo. Your buying two times a BES service.
Im using a Blackberry Bold 9700 with mobile e-mail and Blackberry add-on, but i wont work with BIS. Perhaps its have someting to do with the software version, version 5, that mail2web doesnt support.

The BES support you obtain from your cellular provider allows you to sync using a BES service like that provided by mail2web but it does nothing on its own. On the cellular providers side, BES support is just an enabler, you still need access to a BES server that is connected directly to your Microsoft Exchange mailbox infrastucture. This BES server is what manages the exchange data between your device and mailbox.
In order to setup your blackberry to exchange with BIS you have to use an IMAP or POP3 connection the way you would any ordinary email mailbox with your ISP. You lose sync, realtime push, security features and numerous other benefits.
We've posted a blog somewhat recently on the subject of BIS vs. BES which contains even more detail.
