    Default SIM Cards

There is no real issue with buying a pre-owned phone is there? As long as the phone is designed for your provider all you have to do is change the sim card and everything should work perfectly right?

If you are using a GSM provider, then yes.

If your provider is on a CDMA network there are not usually SIM cards, so you usually have to contact them or visit the store to activate the phone on the network. I know in Canada Bell and Telus use CDMA. I think in the US it's Verizon and Sprint.

    Default not worth preowned

IMHO, buying a preowned phone isn't really worth it. The way companies are cranking out new phones the prices for slightly older models usually drop to a reasonable rate pretty quickly.

True. If you can wait a little bit for a specific phone the price will go down faster than you think.
