Universal phone chargers

Is it true that companies are trying to standardize cell phone chargers so that all cell phones could use the same charger? That would be a great invention, I have at least 4 phone chargers and they only work on the phone they came with.

I think that may be an issue that the government will come in and regulate. They should make chargers that work for all cell phones, it would make things a lot simplier when you lose your charger (like I have).

I wish they'd hurry up. Universal chargers still seem like the impossible dream.
