    Default "Family Locator"

I keep seeing all these phones on the market that mention that they come with "Family Locator" which I assume is an add on of some sort... but what exactly is it?

It almost sounds like GPS tracking for your family just based off the name but I don't know if that guess is right or not.

That's pretty much exactly what it is.
It's a program that Sprint has that will allow you to track up to 4 phones by GPS for $5 a month.
I don't know if you can add more to the plan for an additional fee or not.

That's kind of creepy. I mean sure I understand the need to be able to see where your family is during emergency situations, but if Sprint can track you, who else can? What are they doing with the information? It's got a real "Big Brother" kind of feel to it.

I agree Candace. Thats really creepy and invasive but I also understand why it exists. The big question is whether or not they are always tracking people or if they only activate tracking for people who pay for the service. Regardless of what they say they do there is always the chance that the government is tracking through their technology secretly though.

    Default Well....

It's only creepy if parents don't trust their kids. Otherwise, I think it's a great feature.

    Default blocking

Can you set up your phone somehow so that no one can track it? Or install some kind of feature that would block your phone from being located?

I wondered the exact same thing. Is there a way to turn Big Brother off?

Not going to lie but when my kids become of age I will make sure I have this capability.

What if someone were being stalked by an ex? Or someone who wants to rob you? Couldn't Locator be used by criminals in all kinds of ways?
