A good example would be the Xobni plugin for outlook which helps you search for emails, contacts and attachments, collects statistical data about your email and links your contacts through LinkedIn, Facebook and Hoovers.

There are lots of different add-ons and plugins like this that help you accomplish certain goals or make something you do a little bit easier.
