    Angry [Alias issue] - Setting a mailbox alias change the "to:" header :(

    Hi,

    I've setted aliases on the mail2web administration page for being able to send email as i was on my gmail or professional mailbox.
    But i've just found a really bad side effect.
    The aliases function alter the "to:" header to mail mail2web one.
    So, i cannot identify for which mailbox the mail is sended.

    So, when i receive an email forwarded from one of my gmail mailboxes, i cannot see ( with the aliase setted) where it come from.

    Please find the explanation enclosed :

    - I've setted a forward rule on my gmail mailbox for forwarding the mail to my mail2web one;
    - I receive them on my mail2web box and the destination "to:" is leave intact and point to my gmail mailbox;

    - I've setted an alias for being able to send gmail "mails" from my mailbox but dont set it as my primary alias;
    - The mail forwarded from gmail are now received on my mail2web box but the destination "to:" is now modified and point to my mail2web adress mail ...

    M.

    PS: I have complet headers and mails showing the problem if needed.

    Hi Mkhalil,

    Can you clarify for me which service you are using? mail2web Webmail or mail2web Mobile Email?

    Thanks,

    I've moved this thread and your other one to "mail2web Mobile Email > Troubleshooting".

    If I understand correctly, you have a Gmail account which you are forwarding to your mail2web Mobile Email Account. When you reply to the email it says it is FROM yourname@mail2web.com and not yourname@gmail.com? Is that the problem?

    There is an option for "Set Primary From Address" which will allow you to change this, but it will apply to all your emails, not just the ones that arrive through your Gmail account.

    There is currently no way to define the FROM address to match the original TO address like this.

    There are workarounds possible using an Email Client, but would only work when you are using the email client application.

    Hi,

    You understand wrongly.

    Let's me try to help you.
    I'm currently using my mail2web mailbox as an agregator for 4 ou 5 differents mailboxes.

    All the mailboxes are configured to forward the mail to the mail2web one.
    I also have setted The alternate address function for being able (thru the support.mail2web.com) to choose between thems.

    But , the real problem is that all the mail received from these 4 (or 5) are modified by the "alternate address" function and i'm not able , from mail2web, to know the initial destination address.

    When i receive an email forwarded from these mailboxes , the "to:" (destinator) is modified and replace by the @mail2web.com one.

    This is why is consider the function as broken and unusable for anyone as you have cannot identify the real destinator.

    Are the emails forwarded, or are you using the Email Aggregator to fetch them?

    Have you set any of the email addresses as "Primary From Address", or is your @mail2web.com address still your From Address?

    Mails are forwarded from the real serving domain (gmail or whatever else).

    The issue is caused by the modification of the from header.

    S/MIME standard add a certificat and use the sender adress as primary key.

    The client, when receiving the mail use the "from:" and s/mime embettes certificat for resolving it.

    Thanks. I tried it out and I was able to duplicate the issue you describe.

    From what I can tell, it is not the "Alternate Email Address" feature which is the cause. This feature simply tells the Exchange server that any local email (within @mail2web.com namespace) addressed to the email address X should be delivered to exchange mailbox Y.

    I believe it is the "Primary From Address" feature which causes the TO address modification in the header. I've sent some information to our server administrators for their feedback. We will see what they have to say.

    Thanks,
