Default What version of windows mobile do you use?

    Hi,

I had windows mobile on my last phone, does anyone know what version they are currently up too? And can windows mobile be added to smartphones by anyone or does that have to be done by the company that makes the cell phones?

The most recent version of the Windows Mobile OS is 6.1. I believe 6.5 is coming out in September, and Windows Mobile 7.0 sometime in 2010.

Usually the Operating System is loaded on the phone by the device manufacturer, or by your Cellular service provider. If you already have a Windows Mobile device and want to upgrade you can check with the manufacturer or service provider. If you don't have a Windows Mobile device, I'm sure they can help you select a new one which will work on their network. Most providers offer various options.

Is Mail2web compatible with the newest version of windows mobile? My friend is always checking his email all the time on his phone and I think he has the newest version, I should recommend Mail2web to him since he is always complaining about his inboxs being disorganized.

how long does it usually take you guys to get a new version that's compatible with new operating systems up and running? i've heard somethings about phones updating the OS automatically so i'd imagine that could cause some serious inconveniences sometimes.

I think 6.1is what is most commonly used and accepted by the public and businesses.Version 6.5 is still new to have made it into the mainstream yet.

    Default 7.0

Does anyone know how the 7.0 will differ from 6.5? Will 7/0 be a must-have?

There's a lot of stuff about 7.0 out there, but it all sounds to me as if MS is declaring defeat and falling in behind the apparent leader of the smartphone market (yeah, Apple). It will have a completely different look and feel; the new OS is going to grow out of the codebase developed for the Zune media player, which means relatives of the thousands (maybe millions? hee hee) of bugs removed from the old WM code will infest and live on for years inside v7.0. Windows Mobile 7.0 won't (initially, at least) have multitasking for non-OEM applications, just as the original (and current?) iPhones do not. I would assume it will still have an Outlook/Exchange connection!
