There is an article in the forum FAQ about it

On every mail2web Community site, your avatar will be picked up from your Gravatar account automatically.

If you don't have a Gravatar account, you can create one at Gravatar.com. They're free, and are used by many websites. Otherwise, an identicon will be used as your avatar.

Thanks for the info, this gravatar idea sounds pretty interesting, I'll go take a look at that site and see what i can find out.

Yeah the idea is you can use the avatars in more than one site. Should save everyone some time in the long run. I set mine up this morning, its pretty neat.

That sounds interesting, I would like to change my avatar too. Its nice that we are given a default avatar on this forum, some forums do not even do that and it leads to a very bland look.

Can we change the color of the default pattern on our forum? I see the admin has a different color.

I'm not really a fan of having to sign up for an additional site just to update my avatar somewhere. Seems like a waste of time to me, especially since I doubt a lot of sites link up with them.

I do like their default icons though, very trippy looking.

Oh, sweet, I was trying to figure out how to change my avatar and couldn't so this thread is great. This really cleared that up for me, I'll have to check out Gravatar and see what it's like sometime.

Way too cool! I can't believe it follows you from forum to forum and site to site! This will save me some reformatting nightmares!
