There are a number of third-party created SharePoint "FrontPage Web Packages" or "Dynamic Web Packages" which can be installed on a pre-existing SharePoint 2.0 site.

Please Note: The installation of FWP and DWP packages requires the use of FrontPage 2003. If you are using an older version of FrontPage, some of the below options will not be available to you and you will not be able to apply the template to your site. Further, these steps can only be completed on Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 accounts and are not supported under Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

A number of pre-made free SharePoint site templates are available at the following sites:

   * SharePoint Customization WSS Templates
   * WSSDemo.com Site Templates

To install a FWP package, you can follow these instructions. We recommend starting from an empty Sub-Web, since it is not possible to apply the theme to an existing SharePoint sub-web.

  1. Open FrontPage 2003
  2. From the File menu, choose Open Site...
  3. Type in: http://your-site.com and when prompted, log in with wssadmin@your-site.com and password.
  4. From the View menu choose Folders
  5. Create a new folder and name it appropriately
  6. Right click on your folder and choose Convert To Web
  7. Double-click on your new web, it will open in new FrontPage window.
  8. From the Tools menu choose Server and then Restore Web Site...
  9. Browse to where you saved the FWP file and select it to begin restoration
 10. Once the restoration is complete, open the default.aspx file by double-clicking on the file name. You may need to fix some of the hyperlinks used in the template by right clicking on the link, then choosing Format item as > Hyperlink To > Display Form. Also in some cases you may need to Recalculate Hyperlinks from the Tools menu.

To install a Dynamic Web Package or DWP, you can follow these instructions:

  1. Open FrontPage 2003
  2. From the File menu choose Import...
  3. Add the Files and Folders which are part of the DWP and start the Import.
  4. Once completed, select the page or pages you want to apply the template to. Then from the Format menu choose Dynamic Web Template... > Attach Dynamic Web Template.
  5. Once applied, open each page and complete your site by adding your content to the "editable regions" of the template.
