“Based on the positive response we got from the introduction of our blended, Windows® / Linux plan last year, we felt this was a natural evolution.” said Tony Yustein, CEO of SoftCom Technology Consulting Inc. “Linux continues to dominate the shared hosting market principally due to the accelerated pace new Linux-based applications are being released. We wanted to create a package to specifically address the recent surge in popularity of these applications, especially blogging, online forums, photo albums, and more.”
The new plan, Linux Basic, provides 250 MB of disk space, 10 GB of data transfer, 20 email accounts and comes with a MySQL database pre-installed with every account – all for only $4.95 a month. The Linux platform is based on the latest versions of Apache, MySQL, PHP and Perl.
This latest offering complements an extensive portfolio of shared plans on the Windows® platform, most of which also provide a free Linux account. These Windows® plans range in price from $9.95 for the Windows Basic plan to $59.95 for the Enterprise plan.
“While all our standard Windows® plans come with a free Linux account, we wanted to create a lower-cost Linux plan with the individual and small business in mind,” said Michael Carr, Executive Vice-President of SoftCom Technology Consulting Inc. “For only $4.95 a month, anybody who wants to run a web log (blog) or a forum can do so with their own domain name, without any of the advertising hassles associated with some of the free services available on the market.”
An automated installation process for some of the more popular Linux applications will be introduced shortly to enable customers to easy install and pre-configure applications such as WordPress (a popular open-source Blog application), and PHPbb (an open-source online forum application).
